Currently, Province 1 Police Chief Gyawali has made his reputation in the law enforcement agency for his undisputed image.

Gyawali, who joined the police force on July 9, 1990, got appointed to the post surpassing his two competitors— DIGs Tarani Lamshal and Surya Upadhyaya— in the race for the post of IGP. He was promoted to the post based on seniority.

Incumbent IGP Sarbendra Khanal is retiring from the post on Tuesday under the 30 years compulsory retirement provision. The same provision has caused the retirement of three Additional Inspector Generals and 19 DIGs on the same date as well.
