Two persons died and 16 others were injured when a pickup van met with an accident at Bardibas municipality-5, Mahottari along the East-West Highway on Wednesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Shakuntala Devi Shah, 80 of Dhanusha Dham-2 and Bartaniya Devi Mahato, 60 of Sitahi of Bihar, India as confirmed by the District Police Office, Mahottari. The van (Na 2 Cha 8855) carrying pilgrims met with the accident near Gadhata Bridge at around 4:00 am as the driver lost control of it all of a sudden.
Seriously injured Shah and Mahato were taken to Shubha Swastik Hospital in Bardibas where they succumbed to injuries.
Likewise, 16 people, two critically, have been injured in the accident and the injured are being treated at the Bardibas-based Shuvaswastik Hospital.
