United Nations ready to help victims of deadly floods across south and south east Asia



19 July 2019, Kathmandu

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed his sorrow for the loss of lives and damages to properties caused by the heavy rain and subsequent flooding across South and South-East Asia most notably in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar. As per the statement issued by the United Nations, Farhan Haq, Spokesman for the Secretary-General says that Guterres also wishes for speed recovery of those who have been adversely affected and displaced by the floods.

The United Nations also stands to work with the authorities in the affected countries as they respond to the humanitarian needs of the population resulting from this ongoing monsoon season. For it, the UN response has involved several major agencies such as World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in collaboration with the World Food Programme that will support mapping using satellite imagery.
