Villagers construct road by keeping properties as collateral

Bajhang, June 5

The locals at Talkot rural municipality of the district had once kept the jewelries of their wives as collateral to draw budget for construction of the Rupatola – Talkot – Khaula route.

In 2003, the Talkoti King (Rajwar) Narayan Singh had decided on constructing the road stretch and in 2008 the road construction started. In the beginning, the villagers kept seven tolas of gold as collateral in the bank under the leadership of Rajwar Narayan Singh.

“We struggled a lot to construct the road, we agreed for a dozer by keeping seven tolas of gold in the bank as collateral. Now we have received Rs 2.9 million from various quarters,” said Rupatola – Talkot – Khaula Road Stretch Construction Committee Secretary, Raghubir Singh.

Singh added that the committee again increased the budget by drawing loan. He also extended his gratitude to all the people for keeping their properties as collateral to draw money for a work which the government has not undertaken.

The locals here have now constructed six kilometers of blacktopped road. They have spent Rs 6.4 million till now with a single village family contributing Rs 100,000 to 400,000.
