With 10 new cases, Nepal’s COVID-19 tally hits 291

The Ministry of Health and Population has stated that 10 new cases have been confirmed in Nepal on Sunday morning taking the tally to 291.

In a statement, Joint Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari said that new cases have been reported in Rautahat district.

All of the newly-infected are men. Coronavirus infection has been confirmed in men aged 18, 32, 36, 39, 39, 42 and 48 years of Rajpur Municipality-9, Farhada.

Similarly, it has been confirmed that men aged 28, 30 and 33 years of Ishnath Municipality 3 and 5 of Rautahat have been infected.

Their swab samples were tested at the National Public Health Laboratory in Kathmandu.

Earlier on Saturday night, Nepal confirmed the first death from coronavirus.

According to the Health Ministry, a post-natal mother died while being taken to Dhulikhel Hospital on Thursday.

Her swab sample was tested at the hospital and reconfirmed at the Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory.

The 29-year-old woman had been admitted to Kathmandu based Teaching Hospital on May 5 for childbirth and was discharged on May 7 after a normal delivery.

The woman had returned to her home in Sindhupalchowk after the delivery where she developed the symptoms like high fever and respiratory hazards.

Dhulikhel Hospital has been sealed after the death of the woman. The doctors involved in her treatment have also been kept in isolation and coronavirus tests have been done.
