BEIRUT, March 2, 2018
A Syrian suspected of being a member of the al-Nusra Front was arrested in the town of Arsal in Beqaa, the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced Thursday.
“The ISF intelligence branch has managed to detect and arrest a Syrian national, known as A.Q., 23 years old, in the town of Arsal,” an ISF statement said.
The statement attributed the arrest to “the round-the-clock monitoring” of terror activities by the ISF.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had entered Lebanon with his family in 2014 and that he joined the al-Nusra Front after residing in Arsal,” the statement added.
The detainee also admitted to receiving basic military training from the al-Nusra Front and fought with the militant group on the outskirts of the town of Flita.
